Travel Visa
Most foreign citizens wishing to travel to Ghana need a visa. Holders of diplomatic passports and citizens of ECOWAS countries and select others are exempt; please check the full list of exempt countries .
The responsibility of obtaining a visa lies with the participant. Holders of regular, non-diplomatic passports should apply for a single-entry tourist visa; a business visa is not required.

Visas applications must be submitted via the as well as printed and mailed to the relevant embassy or consulate. Once the online application is completed, the online platform will generate a bespoke checklist with all the application materials that need to be submitted by mail.
Please ensure sufficient time for visa processing and mailing (at least two weeks for expedited service and at least four weeks for regular service).
Basic requirements for a single-entry tourist visa:
- A passport that is valid for at least 6 months and contains at least one blank page
- A recent passport photo in color
- Proof of yellow fever vaccine
- Proof of Covid-19 vaccine
- Payment of visa processing fee (US $60 for regular processing and $100 for expedited)
- Completed application form
- Letter of invitation (can use your confirmation of registration for the Forum)
- Names and contacts information of references in Ghana (can use contact details from hotel reservation and Forum registration)
- An undertaking that the host will ensure that the visitor complies fully with immigration laws of Ghana (can use your confirmation of registration for the Forum or hotel reservation)
- Proof of prepaid return envelope
- Hard copies of all documents listed above, mailed to the relevant embassy or consulate
General Travel Information

COVID-19:

Yellow Fever Vaccination:

Visitors may exchange currency upon arrival in Ghana. Foreign currencies may be converted into Ghanaian cedi at foreign exchange counters at the Accra airport. These outlets are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can also find foreign exchange desks at star-rated hotels. Travelers鈥� cheques may not be accepted at all banks or hotels.
Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) dispense cash throughout the city. Although these machines are linked to a specific local bank, many major credit and debit cards, both domestic and international, should be accepted, with Visa and Mastercard being the most common. Kindly note that certain credit cards, such as American Express, may not be accepted at certain ATMs or local establishments.

In Ghana the standard voltage is 230 V and the frequency is 50 Hz. Wall sockets accept 鈥渢ype D鈥� plugs with three round pins in a triangular pattern or 鈥渢ype G鈥� plugs with three rectangular pins in a triangular pattern.
Most hotels offer complimentary airport pickup and drop off: please follow up with a hotel representative once you have booked your accommodation. In addition, taxis are readily available across Accra and may be booked upon arrival at the airport; from a hotel’s concierge desk (fares vary); and by being hailed on the street. Ride-hailing apps such as Uber, Bolt, and Lyft are operational in the city but cannot be guaranteed. Travelers are encouraged to use their best judgement when arranging transportation.

In Ghana, mobile carriers use GSM systems. Please contact your mobile service provider to check their roaming partners and tariffs in Ghana. Local SIM cards may be purchased for unlocked mobile phones, but this requires visiting a mobile phone provider in person and providing passport information to officially register a SIM card.
Tipping in Ghana is not expected but is appreciated. A suggested rate for tipping is 10%. Tipping should always be done in Ghanaian cedi.
The average high temperature in Accra, in October, is 29.1掳C (84.4掳F), while the average low temperature is 24.5掳C (76.1掳F). The average relative humidity in Accra, in October, is 82%.
Most visits to Ghana are trouble free, but criminal activity does occur and can range from incidents of petty crime to violent crime. Participants are advised to observe normal safety precautions when moving around the city. In particular: Watch your luggage and other belongings; inquire at your hotel reception desk about the use of safe deposit boxes; avoid walking around after dark, especially in isolated areas; avoid carrying large amounts of cash; don鈥檛 wear expensive watches, jewelry, or items of sentimental value; and carry a form of ID with you at all times (a copy of your passport is normally acceptable).
